Counselling will provide you with a safe, confidential space to talk through, explore and reflect on what is happening in your life, which might be causing you to feel upset, stressed, angry, down, confused or anxious. Many people find that the act of talking to someone who won’t judge them, but who does listen attentively is the first step to feeling better.

hypnotherapy faqs
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a brief, gentle, relaxing therapy. Through experiencing deep relaxation, your subconscious and conscious mind will be able to work together to change your unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviours which are getting in the way of you living the life that you really want.
How many hypnotherapy sessions will I need?
Typically, you will need between four to six sessions for a “single” issue, like anxiety or lack of confidence. Phobias can often be removed in as few as four sessions. Due to the specific nature of smoking cessation, you will require two sessions of an hour and a half over a two week period. Just think, in as little as four hours, you could be totally free of whatever is holding you back…
How much does it cost?
All hypnotherapy sessions cost £68.00 an hour. Lower cost sessions are available for £54 an hour.
What if I'd like a combination of counselling and hypnotherapy?
Some people benefit from a combination of counselling and hypnotherapy. This can be a set of counselling sessions, followed by a set of hypnotherapy sessions. Alternatively, some people have split their sessions so that they have a shorter counselling session, with hypnotherapy relaxation for the second half of the session.
What if I feel awful and don't know what to talk about?
Many people worry that they won’t know what to say or simply feel awful but don’t know why. I am experienced in working with how a person feels, even if they don’t understand where this feeling comes from. Often having the time and space to explore how you feel, is enough for you to start understanding why you feel as you do.
What happens in the first session? Your first session will be an Initial Assessment session. This will involve me asking you a number of questions in order to create a framework for how to work effectively together. A lot of people find the structure of an Initial Assessment an easier way to begin their sessions because they are provided with questions and a structure.
I know that for many people finding a counsellor and attending their first counselling session can be nerve wracking. Please rest assured that I will do everything that I can to put you at ease.
When you have finished your Initial Assessment, I will reflect back what I have heard and suggest a way for us to work together. Some people find it useful to separate out the different things in their life that are causing distress or difficulty.
After the Initial Assessment session, clients often spend a few sessions "telling their story" before I start to suggest strategies or interventions. Sometimes clients opt for a combination of counselling and hypnotherapy as a way to work through whatever is troubling them. I review your sessions around session four to make sure that you are finding them helpful.
Although many people enjoy the freedom of not specifying how many sessions they will have at the start, other clients have named the number of sessions they would like or can afford from the beginning. Either option is possible.
What issues do you work with?
I have extensive experience of working with young people with anxiety, lack of motivation, low mood, relationship break up, divorce, separation, bereavement and loss as well as educational issues. This has included fear of public speaking, exam stress, low self-esteem due to being bullied, social anxiety and coping with the transition of starting university.
Although I specialise in hypnotherapy for educational issues, I have worked with adults experiencing insomnia, nightmares, low mood, lack of confidence, stress, phobias, anxiety or people who wish to give up smoking, tackle specific food cravings and manage their weight more effectively. I have a particular passion for helping people manage their weight through hypnotherapy!
